So, here are some tips to getting motivated!

I am so motivated on some days and other days, I am all like: Moti-what? There are times when I want to stay under the fluffy down comforter and barely peek above the top of it except to rub my fat feline. Then there are days where I am super-organized, super-excited. Super-motivated!

These are some things that have helped me as of late, particularly since the start of this new year.

1. Make a list of your top 5 goals

Cross off 2 that are not as important. If you feel that you are robbing yourself by not tackling all of your goals at once, put the long term ones in the 4 and 5 slots. These can be chipped away at piece by piece and can be worked on in periodically while working on the primary 3. For me personally, I cannot work on that many of my goals and do a good job. I can’t be effective at achieving much of anything if I feel overwhelmed with too many thoughts and ideas .

2. Write your goals down in several places

Seeing is believing for most people. If  your written goals are a part of your everyday life, then it is likely that your goals will become ingrained in your psyche. Put a sticky note on your mirror so that you can see them while brushing your teeth, shaving or putting on makeup, etc. Have them written down in your closet so that you can see them while picking out your clothing. Affix them to your steering wheel so that when you get in the car, you can think about them before heading to the work or to wherever you may go.

3. Speak your goals into existence

If you aren’t a spiritual person, then this step may not make much sense to you. But there are many people, including myself, that believe that what you speak will actually be. If  you speak in positive ways about your goals and dreams then they are more likely to occur. You don’t have to be delusional, and think that because you have been in one community play that you will be up for an Oscar next year. But, if you put the work in and have a positive attitude your goals will have a better chance of coming  to pass.

4. Set realistic goals to begin with

Reach for the stars, but live in the real world.  Set your sights on an achievable plan then you are more likely to stay on track. Do not ever let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. Only you (and God) know what type of drive you have and how capable you are. But not many of us are going to be an Olympic medalist or win a Grammy. There is a chance though that you may be able to have a career in the sports industry or can work at a recording studio doing the mixing board. Don’t change who you are or what you love, just make adjustment that will work with your God-given talent or abilities.

5. Not to sound like a cliche`, but JUST DO IT already

Start! You can’t make it as a fitness trainer while sitting on the couch eating cheese puffs every night. Get off your butt, do some push ups or press play on the 21 Day Fix dvd. Whatever you desire or dream of starts with the smallest step. Want to be a writer? Start by writing in a journal. Want to make more friends? Don’t stay in the house so much. I know fear is a factor in making your dreams a reality, but don’t let that tiny 4 letter word hold you back from being who you are meant to be.

  1. I struggle in knowing what my goals are. I asked myself “what do you want to do?” Silence in my mind. “What do you like to do and enjoying doing?” Mind blank. It’s like they are there and they come up at random times but not when I actually need to summon a goal or write one down or when I’m ready to fully consider it.
